Document File Protector
-----------------------
by
C D Harrison
(c) 1993
Document File Protector or D.F.P for short, is a SHAREWARE program, that
means if you like this program and wish to continuing using it then you
should pay some sort of contribution to the author namely me!
This does not mean you have to, but after using this program you will
notice its excellent function - which is to protect your document files -
and NOBODY and I mean NOBODY will be able to understand your text because
DFP will physically change your text.
Firstly lets explain what will happen if you do contribute the measly £5
sterling to me. DFP is not a finished project (unless I do not receive
enough dosh off the users) and I will continue to improve this program,
plans in the pipeline include ;- 2 speed modes for extra quickness
To encrypt ANY files including Games,
whether crunched or not.
If you are interested and I'm sure you will because there is NO OTHER
program of its kind on the Amiga Public Domain market, then please send you
£5 sterling (Postal Orders accepted) to;-
Mr Carl Harrison

This program may be freely distributed, however no further versions will be
available unless SHAREWARE contributions are received. Ta.

Document File Protector
----------------------
DFP is a program written in HiSoft BASIC, which I feel has given
flexibility along with the power of your Amiga Computer.
DFP is an original program, see for yourself - have you seen a file
protection program that can encrypt your file to the point of NEVER being
seen by those who aren't supposed to see it!
DFP will handle ANY size document - subject to limitations of YOUR machine,
it uses RAM to the full extent. The more RAM, the bigger the document can
be, on a standard A500 PLUS (which this was written on - and has been
tested on a standard A500) it will cope with document sizes of 600
kilobytes easily. Also, I am led to believe the faster your machine the
faster this program wil run, although its quite nippy on a 68000.
DFP has TWO kinds of protection mode, one giving you the choice of entering
a password using ANY available keystroke characters available via the
keyboard, the other giving you a choice of numbers between 1 and 255.
The two can, in fact be incorporated into your protection giving you the
ULTIMATE protection, no hacker, hardware ANYTHING will be able to read your
file unless you give them the password(s) or number(s).
Right enough bragging, lets get on with it...
When you boot DFP, you will get a small menu giving you three choices:-
1) Start Program
2) About
3) System or Quit
Lets work arse about face....
3) System or Quit
-----------------
This function simply quits you out of DFP back into workbench. DFP is
multitasking, however unless you have a significant amount of RAM, say 2
megabytes its a waste of time running DPAINT 4 and DFP - DFP will require a
lot of RAM if your file is quite large, However for Word Processors, and I
mean SIMPLE word processors such as TextEd multitasking is fine.
2) About
--------
This basically is a shortened version of all the gunf I've just told you
about. When finished you are returned back to the main menu.
1) Start Program
----------------
Here we go....
When this option is chosen you will be presented with another menu, this
time asking if the type of protection is going to be a password or number
system.
1) Password
2) Numbers
1) Password:- This will let you type in a word or string of words not
longer than 20 characters (the limit is because of speed on 68000, although
the PAID version will let you go upto 255 characters!) and these characters
can be any character available through the keyboard whether using CTRL,
SHIFT, ALT, whatever.
PLEASE READ IMPORTANT BIT FURTHER DOWN A BIT...
-----------------------------------------------
2) Numbers:- This will let you enter between 1 and 20 numbers, each
consisting of a number between 1 and 255.
After, whichever mode you chose, the program will present a file requestor
asking for a file on which you wish to protect. The file will load, and the
program will display a percentage meter, letting you know the program is
doing something, and how far it has coded your file. When finished the
program will re-save the coded file back in its original place on the disk,
so that on evidence is left.
IMPORTANT BIT FROM ABOVE
------------------------
The program works like this, after you have entered your password to encode
the file, decoding MUST be taken as the following otherwise you will encode
your program even more....
To decode your file into its original state you must repeat the password,
or numbers-whichever you chose backwards. In other words what went in last
must be put in first.
Encodement:
e.g. numbers - 2,4,6,8,10 Password: SHAREWARE
Decodement:
10,8,6,4,2 Password: ERAWERAHS
Anything other than last to first on decodement will encrypt your file even
more probably by thousands of calculations - so if your going to use a
password, keep it short and easy to remember, such as you dogs name, or
numbers as your telephone number or date of birth.
If you don't understand, or if you do I STRONGLY advise you to try it out
on a simple text file so that you can see if you can use this properly,
because if you use this on an important file and you cock-it-up don't come
running to me with your lawyer(s) because I refuse to be responsible for
misuse of this program. The instructions have been made as easy as possible
- even for first time Amiga Users (well, anybody who knows how to boot a
disk!)
Encodement of keyboard characters affect the file even if it is a simple
difference between upper and lower characters, so be careful.
Bugs Known:- None - except if a line of text is longer than 255 characters
which is very rare so don't worry too much about that.
DFP was an original idea by me when I made a word processor on the Amstrad
CPC464 in 1990, which incidently appeared on the Christmas 1990 edition of
Amstrad Action.
All I ask, and in fact any programmer who makes a SHAREWARE program is to
be rewarded for the hard work that we put into our programs, so please
donate - especially if you think this program is quite good, of which I
think it is. A commercial version of this could cost you between £30-£40 or
even more so it works out very cheap at £5.

******************************** NOTICE **********************************
**************************************************************************
This program is SHAREWARE and I also claim NO responsibility of its misuse
on ANY files. It has been debugged and tested, it works as it should and
therefore any errors caused will have been caused by the user - namely
YOU!
Thank You for Using DFP
